Created in the late 1970s, the Sculpture Park now consists of an important group of works created mainly after the mid-20th century by Swiss and international artists.

Originally located at the Belvedere Garden, the park in recent years has been enriched with works from other urban areas and has found a new arrangement that has further enhanced the area by connecting the LAC and MASI - Museo d'Arte della Svizzera italiana to Villa Malpensata, home of the MUSEC - Museum of Cultures.

History

The City decided to create a sculpture park following an exhibition held in 1977 in the main squares and streets of downtown, which featured works by artists from around the world.

An initial nucleus of works, some of which can still be seen today, was added to those already present by Piero Travaglini (Catena) and Harry Balart (Cathedralit).

Thus began a new cultural policy that included a series of new acquisitions, later augmented by generous donations, and that enabled the Belvedere Gallery to grow in the following decades.

The creation of the new LAC cultural center and profound urban planning changes in the area eventually led to the new concept of the sculpture park as a whole.

Today it is possible to admire works by established international artists such as; Selim Abdullah, Nena Airoldi Ciuti, Nag Arnoldi, Paolo Bellini, Mario Bernasconi, Max Bill, Carlo Ciarli, Massimo Ghiotti, Robert Lienhard, Gianfranco Rossi, Remo Rossi, Pierino Selmoni and Piero Travaglini.
