Energy
The topic of energy concerns everyone, at all times.
Lugano is aware of the challenges related to environmental and energy issues, as well as the importance for public entities to identify strategies and respond by adapting their infrastructures.
The decision in 2016 to adopt its own environmental and energy policy was consolidated and clarified in the City's Linee di sviluppo 2018-2028 (2018-2028 Development Guidelines) for a Lugano focused on the environment and urban quality.
Among the objectives are the completion of the Piano energetico comunale (PECo, Municipal Energy Plan) and the maintenance of the Energy City® label, obtained at the end of 2019 for concrete and exemplary achievements and renewed in 2023. Additionally, in 2024, the City published, for the first time, the sustainability report, a document that accurately and transparently describes the sectoral policies and measures promoted by the City Administration to guide the Municipality’s growth according to sustainable development principles.
