Elderly

The City of Lugano pays special attention to the elderly population. The network includes the support of the Agenzia AVS (OASI agency), supplementary benefits, the home care service ScuDo, and seven care facilities managed by the public law entity Lugano Istituti Sociali (LIS).

In these facilities, qualified staff work to ensure continuous nursing and medical care while prioritizing the essential interpersonal connection. It is easy to understand how challenging it can be to leave one’s home, family, and friends, along with familiar objects and routines, to transition into a completely new environment. For this reason, the staff of the public social institutions not only seek professional and technical contact but, above all, aim to provide a human connection, ensuring that the elderly feel welcomed, supported, and respected.
