Ciani Park

A true green oasis in the city center, Ciani Park is a place of attraction for residents and tourists alike. It is considered among the most beautiful parks in Switzerland because of its prime lakeside location, impressive trees, large playground area and beautiful pedestrian paths that branch out among statues, fountains and flower beds.

Consisting of a very rich subtropical flora and Mediterranean-type vegetation (examples include palms, exotic shrubs, roses, azaleas, magnolias and camellias), it extends over an area of more than 63,000 m² to the right bank of the Cassarate River where, at the mouth, a belvedere complete with benches and a small beach is particularly appreciated by those who want to enjoy some relaxation overlooking the Gulf of Lugano.

In the area located between the Cantonal Library and the lake since 2018, on the other hand, there is a Garden of the Righteous, a first in Switzerland, where specially planted olive trees and plaques pay tribute to six Ticino citizens whose courageous actions helped save many people persecuted for political, racial or religious reasons.

The park is named after its 1840 owners, residents of Villa Ciani, and became a municipal park in 1912.
