In the meadow next to the old Cornaredo farm is a very special public park: an educational orchard consisting of 60 saplings of different fruit species, including prunes, apple, walnut, cherry, peach, pear and dogwood trees, in memory of the tree that historically gave its name to the Cornaredo neighborhood. The meadow is a gathering place that combines the pleasure of being in the green with the appreciation and knowledge of biodiversity, which is precious to the area. Species have been chosen because they are of local origin, of traditional importance, or simply because they are special.

Among the best-known varieties are the beautiful woodland apple, the spadoncina pear, bigarreau cherries and the damson plum, joined by the curious autumn red calvilla and the biricoccolo, a natural hybrid between the plum and the apricot. Local varieties include the verdesa apple, the per rügin, and the pom rossin, also known as the reddish apple.

In favor of biodiversity, the park is managed according to the principles of the Garden Charta.

The promoters of the project are the City of Lugano, Public Green Sector, the ProFrutteti working group and the Alberoteca, in collaboration with the Alleanza Territorio e Biodiversità. The Blue Planet Virginia Böger X.X. Foundation is supporting the project.
