Funiculars
Lugano offers citizens and tourists three attractive funicular railways to the FFS Station and the peaks of Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore.
Opened in 1886, the funicular Lugano-SBB Train Station, also known as "La Sassellina," provides travelers with a fast and comfortable connection between the Besso district and the city center.
A major renovation project begun in 2014 and completed in 2016 has made the historic funicular technologically advanced and more capacious.

Inaugurated in 1908, the funicular takes you to the summit of Monte Brè in a quarter of an hour, tackling an elevation gain of 629 meters over a total distance of 1,599 meters. It can be taken either from Via Pico in Cassarate or from Via Ceresio in Ruvigliana.
To reach it, from downtown Lugano, you can take the Line 1 bus to the Cassarate-Monte Brè stop. From the station, on the other hand, you need to get on Line 2 and get off at the Lanchetta stop. It is also possible to park at the Ruvigliana station or San Michele Park.
The funicular operates from morning to evening, from the first Saturday in March to 6 January.

It is located 500 meters from the Lugano-Sud highway exit and a five-minute walk from Paradiso SBB Station and the Paradiso, Station/Schools and Paradiso, Geretta bus stops.
