Public transportation

The opening of the new Monte Ceneri railway tunnel (December 2020) was accompanied by a significant enhancement of public transport, including road transport. In general, the main regional lines have been improved, with services running every 30 minutes throughout the day from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday to Sunday. In the evening, the service is provided until midnight. The urban bus network in the Lugano area has been strengthened with increased frequency, extended operating hours, and intensified service on weekends.

Previously, the City had already acted with the recent renovation of the funicular that leads to the SBB station, demonstrating how, in recent years, the City of Lugano has been focusing on public transport to improve air quality and reduce traffic.

In this direction, the PVP - Piano della Viabilità del Polo, with the creation of new parking areas outside the center, aims to encourage the use of public transport within the city.

This is, therefore, an effort on multiple fronts in favor of sustainable mobility and climate protection, supported by the fact that the City has obtained the Energy City® label.
