The museum houses, in the Pazzallo home of sculptor Mario Bernasconi (1899-1963), the private collection of the artist's works and those of his wife, painter Irma Bernasconi-Pannes (1902-1971). The house has been restored while maintaining the original layout of the rooms.

Bernasconi was trained in Lugano at the school of Luigi Vassalli and then by Giuseppe Foglia. He learned to work with marble and clay, drew bas-reliefs and studied the human body. After a period of work in German-speaking Switzerland and several trips to Italy, especially Tuscany, he moved to Germany, then returned to Ticino.
