Located on Lugano's lakefront in the historic Villa Malpensata, MUSEC offers a rich program of exhibitions and events dedicated to ethnic and oriental arts, photography, and modern and contemporary art.

On the ground floor, Spazio Maraini is entirely dedicated to historical and contemporary photography. On the first and second floors the Spazio Mostre hosts major exhibitions. On the third floor, Spazio Cielo allows visitors to discover new collections or contemporary artists. Also accessible free of charge is the Spazio Tesoro, with highlights from the permanent collections.

MUSEC preserves masterpieces of South Sea art, donated by Swiss artist Serge Brignoni to the City of Lugano. Over the years, numerous other prestigious collections have been added, including one of the world's most important collections of hand-painted Japanese photographs from the late 19th century.
