Casa Primavera is a place of support for children and young people between the ages of three and 18 from difficult family situations. It is one of the facilities managed by the autonomous organisation LIS-Lugano Istituti Sociali and can accommodate up to 60 guests, 40 internal and 20 external, divided into five groups. Each group is supervised by four educators coordinated by the facility manager.

The goal is to educate and foster the individual growth of its guests by collaborating, as much as possible, with families, schools and the network of support services in the area. However, the Institute does not have in-house schools; therefore, the youths mostly attend public school facilities (this allows them to socialize with peers in their district).

The young people are supervised by educators in carrying out their homework and study time, which is extended, when necessary, to specific remedial school activities.

During the summer, ViviLugano also takes place, an initiative that proposes animations, sports and play activities also aimed at children in the city from other districts and neighbouring municipalities.

Further information

More details about the facility and activities can be found on the Casa Primavera page on the official website of the autonomous body LIS-Lugano Istituti Sociali.

Below are two extracts from young guests explaining their experience in the facility (translated from Italian):

Linda, age 10

Casa Primavera is a place where children who are in need come because their parents work or have problems to keep them from becoming more serious. Then children come here to do activities, travel, live. The core is safe, beautiful and decorated. I have a room to myself and no one else. I eat everything but some things I don't like. At Casa Primavera I play, I draw, I mess around and I am the educators' nightmare, but I love them so much. I do homework, study, read, wash, dry, make the educators coffee, help them and clean up. I would like not to sleep here but only come during the day, I would like all the stagiaires and educators to come back to work here. I would like to do a show where I dance and sing and go to the beach with my group. I would like there to be a gym to exercise and also dance when it rains or is cold outside.

Christopher, 7 years old

At Casa Primavera I play, do homework, do crafts, draw, go to see how my friends play ping pong, wash dishes, dry very well and be good and eat everything. I like Casa Primavera because there are beautiful colors, because the place is nice and big. The cores are nice and there is a big garden, the soccer field and basketball court and there is also the ping pong table. I come to Casa Primavera because my mom works. I would like to do painting, watercolors, take a nice long trip, a field trip, learn about a city, the sea; I would like to learn about a rocket airport where the "shuttle" leaves from.
