Health
High-quality public and private health care facilities operate in the Lugano area, which, in addition to offering classic treatments, foster research and applications in several leading areas of medicine. Thanks to these contributions, Lugano increasingly serves as a reference point for numerous international medical conferences, placing itself at the center of a rapidly expanding network of sectoral research.
The City has also promoted several projects on prevention and health more generally.
Lugano Healthy City 2013
As part of the Healthy City 2013 competition, Lugano's project placed among the top seven at the Swiss level, earning a nationwide recognition that also allowed the logo to be used as a symbol of commitment to health and social issues.
The competition aimed at enhancing health promotion initiatives by municipal authorities.
Lugano's campaign "Vivimeglio. Basta poco" (Livebetter. Just a Little is Enough) focused on the fact that all it takes to improve one's well-being and daily habits is to devote a few minutes to physical exercise and pay a little attention to one's diet.
Healthy municipality
Between 2015 and 2018, the City of Lugano joined the cantonal "Comuni in salute" (Healthy municipalities) program, which aimed to improve the well-being and quality of life of citizens with a prevention project, particularly among young people, against excessive alcohol and tobacco consumption.
