New Year

Every 1 January, as per tradition, the City of Lugano invites the population to celebrate the New Year with city authorities and associations.

Usually at 11 a.m., a procession departs from Piazza della Riforma and reaches the Palazzo dei Congressi, where the exchange of greetings ceremony takes place, enlivened by artistic and musical interludes and the Mayor's speech, focusing on the balance of the year just past and the goals for the future.

A guest speaker, a distinguished person from the cultural or scientific world, who shares his or her vision of the city and future prospects with the citizens, is also always invited.

Speeches are translated in real time into sign language.

Dedicated facilities at the Palazzo dei Congressi are available for those with mobility disabilities.

Afterwards, refreshments are offered to all present.

The awarding of the title of Energy City in 2020.

An important milestone was celebrated at the New Year's Eve Ceremony of the year 2020. During the event, in fact, the City of Lugano was awarded the title of Energy City, an award that recognizes the policies promoted by public authorities in the energy and environmental fields.
