University Library

The University Library Lugano (BUL) organizes, within the Lugano faculties of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), documentary materials (monographs, periodicals, electronic media, etc.) meeting study, research and information purposes.

The BUL also houses the Library of the Faculty of Theology and manages the information needs of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. The establishment of a specialized collection is intended not only to support academic activities, but also cultural and professional life in Ticino. The Library is therefore open to the public, for anyone who wants to document the disciplines studied at the university.

It has various multimedia tools, and users can make use of PCs with Internet access, various individual study spaces and photocopiers.

Together with the Library of the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, BUL constitutes the Libraries of the Università della Svizzera italiana (BiUSI), is associated with the Swiss Library Service Platform (SLSP) and is part of swisscovery. This provides access to the catalogs of libraries and documentation centers associated with the network, virtually extending its documentary holdings and ensuring their real use through interlibrary loan.

The Library is also a member of the BibliOpass initiative, which provides access to more than 500 national, cantonal and university libraries in Switzerland.
