Centro Polis

In fall 2021, the Centro Polis was opened in Pregassona. With the building of the new center, the City pursues the goal of promoting a policy for the elderly that responds to their needs, both present and future.

In addition, with the Centro Polis, Lugano is adjusting the supply of beds in response to growing demand.

At the same time, it proposes initiatives and measures to support families, including through a major redevelopment of the area, with public spaces that can be used by the population. The Polis thus aims to be a welcoming and socializing center for the district.

The medicalized residence for the elderly has 114 beds, of which:

• 14 beds dedicated to palliative care
• 1 ward with 30 beds dedicated to people with dementia
• 6 beds are prepared and equipped with aids for providing care to bariatric patients
• A sensory center basal stimulation according to the Snozelen method

The Polis Center also houses:

• A day care center that will be able to progressively accommodate about 20 users per day
• A daycare center with a capacity to accommodate 26 children in the 0-3 age group.

Thanks to the establishment of these two sensitive sectors (seniors and children), the Centro Polis is an excellent example of intergenerationality.
