No-Littering 2025: Awareness-Raising Actions Against Littering in Lugano

In 2025, the City of Lugano is once again renewing its commitment to the fight against littering, thanks to the collaboration between the Divisione Spazi urbani (DSU) and IGSU (Interessengemeinschaft für eine saubere Umwelt – Swiss Competence Centre Against Littering). Lugano was one of the first municipalities to adopt a specific ordinance against littering and to obtain the “No-Littering City” label, thanks to the implementation of concrete measures and awareness-raising actions aimed at the general public. In addition to promoting zero waste abandonment, the planned initiatives aim to highlight the importance of waste recycling as a daily gesture of respect for the environment.

Below is the schedule of the awareness-raising actions planned for 2025 in Lugano:

• Friday 28 and Saturday 29 March 2025
  Tour and Action: Street Unart
  (City Center)
  During this initiative, small drawings of animals or anti-littering slogans are created around discarded waste in the city, raising awareness in a creative and immediate way about the impact of littering. Proper waste management and recycling are also emphasized.
   
• Friday 2 and Saturday 3 May 2025
  Tour and Action: IGSU Poster Campaign
  (Piazza Dante and City Center)
  On this occasion, passersby can write their messages against littering and in favor of waste recycling on a large public poster, declaring their commitment to a cleaner city. The initiative also aims to raise awareness of good practices for waste separation and material recovery.
   
• Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September 2025
  Tour and Action: The Littering Crime Scene
  (Friday 26 in the City Center – Saturday 27 during Stralugano, City Center)
  A “crime scene” will be staged where the accused is littering. Citizens can join the IGSU detective to discover the story behind this environmental offense and learn how to prevent it, also by improving recycling habits.
   
• Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October 2025
  Tour and Action: The Littering Crime Scene
  (Friday 3 in the City Center – Saturday 4 during the Autumn Festival, City Center)
  The initiative will return, allowing citizens to “investigate” littering once again and emphasizing the importance of avoiding waste abandonment and encouraging proper recycling.
   

The actions are led by the ambassadors of IGSU (Interessengemeinschaft für eine saubere Umwelt – Swiss Competence Centre Against Littering), with the goal of spreading the “No-Littering” message and promoting correct recycling habits throughout the community.

All events will take place from 10:00 to 17:00.
