Via Maraini closed for the works on the Besso underpass

From 10:00 pm on Friday, 28 February to 5:00 am on Thursday, 6 March 2025, the section of Via Maraini between the SBB station roundabout and the intersection with Via Manzoni will be completely closed to traffic. The closure is necessary for some works related to the construction of the new Besso pedestrian underpass.

The works for the construction of the Besso pedestrian underpass are proceeding as scheduled and the exit to Bertaccio Park has now been completed. It is therefore time to remove the temporary bridge on Via Maraini, installed in May 2024, which allowed excavation under the carriageway without interfering with road traffic. In the coming months, work will continue in the new underpass to complete the project, including the installation of four elevators, two escalators, the paving, all the furnishings as well as the necessary technical and architectural components. The underpass is scheduled to open at the end of this year.

From 10:00 pm on Friday, 28 February until 5:00 am on Thursday, 6 March 2025, Via Maraini will therefore be completely closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, between the SBB station roundabout and the intersection with Via Manzoni/Besso tunnel, so that the temporary bridge can be safely removed. Alternative routes for vehicular traffic have been identified in collaboration with the Lugano City Police. The deviations will be indicated with the usual orange signage and placed along the main arteries of the city.

The Department of Territory, the City of Lugano, and SBB apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause and recommend that motorists follow the posted signage.
