Founded in 1982 by a group of mothers and always managed by around twenty volunteer collaborators, the children's library of Pregassona is located on Viale Cassone. It specifically promotes an interest in reading among children from early childhood to around 12 years old.

Books for children and adults

The library offers over 6,800 books categorized by topic and age:

  • board books and tactile books for the youngest readers
  • fiction for children and young adults
  • non-fiction: science, history, nature, sports, hobbies, etc.
  • books in various foreign languages, in addition to Italian: German, French, English, etc.
  • easy-to-read books designed to facilitate reading and text comprehension
  • over 50 books for adults provided by Bibliomedia della Svizzera italiana

Loan

The annual membership fee of CHF 5.- for children and adults is valid from 1st June to 31 May of the following year and allows borrowing two books for one month and four books during the summer holidays.

Membership is open to everyone and can be obtained at the library.

Activities

In addition to book lending, stories for all ages are offered throughout the year, the Notte del racconto (Story Night) event, Advent fairy tales, meetings with authors and illustrators of children's books, events on science and nature, fairy tale readings accompanied by crafts activities, after-school afternoons, and visits by preschool and primary school classes.

The library also regularly participates in the used book exchange at Quartiere Maghetti, organized in collaboration with other children's libraries in Lugano.
