The building was inaugurated in 1989, designed by architect Alberto Tibiletti. Due to site conditions and current regulations, lateral extensions were not possible, leading to the choice of adding an additional floor.

The Alzheimer’s ward of Residenza Gemmo features 10 single rooms and 10 double rooms, walking areas, living spaces, bay windows offering views of the surrounding landscape, and a protected "garden" on the roof. The day spaces and rooms are alternated to make walking routes more varied. Architectural spaces, materials, colors, lighting, and furnishings are functional and contribute to creating a sense of homeliness and an atmosphere of tranquility and rest for residents, supporting better disease management.

The "garden" on the roof is accessed via a gently sloping ramp. It is a protected area for occupational, sensory, and perceptual activities. It includes a circular path, a resting area, and a planting bed for vegetables.
